Wave of Prayer Services – I hope you all enjoyed them and I should like to hear how they went. The attendance, at the service in the Cathedral for Diocesan members, was disappointing. We were very privileged to have our service beautifully led by the Dean. Thank you to those who came.

Diocesan Quiet Day, Saturday 15th September led by our Chaplain Janet was held at

All Saints Church, Longwell Green. It was a wonderful serene chill-out time of reflection in the midst of our busy lives. It was about ‘Olives’ - the Olive Tree, The Mount of Olives and olive oil. Janet even game us an excellent demonstration on an olive oil ‘lamp’ (& didn’t set fire to the church!) If you weren’t there – you missed a treat.

The F&P committee will be producing the Advent Service for this year shortly. (Advent starts 2nd December) and we will be producing the prayer card for 2019.

MU Harvest Appeal 2018

In 2017, the Mothers' Union's Harvest Appeal drew attention to the suffering experienced by people displaced by the ongoing conflict t in South Sudan, many of whom faced starvation as well as the constant threat of danger. Thanks to the generous donations of members and supporters like you, Mothers’ Union Community Worker, Mama Harriet was able to continue transporting food and other essential items to families in need.

For 2018 we are pleased to update all supporters of the success in South Sudan following the work of members there and are now looking to help those who had previously fled their homes to return and rebuild. Many who fled to neighbouring Uganda experienced projects like 'Eagle' (a pilot community development project launched by Mothers' Union) and want to bring it back to South Sudan with them.

The MU Theme for 2019 is “Listen, observe, act – in step with God.”

Policy

16 Days of Activism against Gender Based Violence

This is an international campaign. It takes place each year from 25 November

(International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women) until

10 December (International Human Rights Day).

Throughout the campaign, we join with others globally to raise awareness of, and call for an end to, gender-based violence in all forms and in all societies.

This year MU will not have a specific day for a ‘global moment’. Rather, we are going to make a suggestion of a particular resource that all members can choose to use/do (if they so wish) on any day - or throughout the two weeks - and to send in their pictures of having done so. I will email out resources to you.
